Combining Engraving with Stone Setting
Lettering and monograms are usually created solely with engraved lines. This pendant, however, shows a neat way of combining stone setting with engraving.
The large "S" is made with both engraved lines and stones set in a tapered pavé curved line. This combination defines the form of the letter, giving it a lighter appearance than just a blackened background. In contrast to this pendant, the Signet Ring from January 2008 uses only engraved lines to create the shape of the letters.
Because this letter starts mainly with engraved lines, continues to stones, and then finishes with engraved lines again, neither the stones nor the engraved lines fully define the letter. Instead they work together to bring about a very nice effect that when coupled with a border creates a finished and professional pendant.
