Engraving a Simple Project: Nature & Design
This gold pendant, though simple in the use of elements, conveys
an elegant beauty that perhaps has yet to be tamed. Engraved by René Delcour,
a well-known artist of Liége, Belgium, this pendant combines
nature with design principles for a very effective use of space.
Although this design revolves around a pretty and small bouquet
of five symmetrical flowers, just beyond the flowers lies a carefree
tangle of vines and leaves. The symmetry of the bouquet is very much
ordered and proper, in both the execution of the engraving and the
layout of each flower.
The leaves and vines in the background, on the other hand, twist
and turn in random yet aesthetic ways. This contrasts the more formal
center of flowers by introducing a natural and "unposed" look.
The absence of a border also reinforces the freeness of these leaves
and vines.
René Delcour engraved this pendant some years ago for Mary
Glaser, the wife of Glendo's late co-creator Donald
A. Glaser. Look
