A Horn Cap in Silver & Copper
Not every piece of engraved work ends up fulfilling its life purpose. Sometimes things happen in life that are beyond our control, there's no doubt about it. However, even if an engraved piece such as this one doesn't end up on its rightful saddle, it is still artwork that anyone may appreciate.
This horn cap, beautifully done by engraver and saddle maker Jeremiah Watt, was originally for a new saddle Watt's client had ordered. Sadly, the client passed away from cancer before the entire project was completed. Although the client's daughter started to take over the project and see it through completion, Watt ended up with a personalized horn cap sitting in his desk drawer for several years.
There isn't much an engraver can do in these situations. It's always at the discretion of the artist as to whether he should finish a project that will not end up as intended. But even in the midst of this tragedy, many others can now benefit from having seen this lovely silver and copper horn cap.
