Engraving Jewelry with Sam Alfano
Wearing jewelry made of precious metals and other natural material goes back many generations. Although what is of value varies from one culture to the next, jewelry is an important accessory for many. One of the ways that jewelers can increase the value of their work is by adding engraving.
A custom ring, watch, or pendant that has been accented with a monogram or covered completely with engraved designs is becoming more and more popular with clients. The items featured here are by engraver Sam Alfano of Louisiana. Alfano teaches a Jewelry Engraving course at the GRS Training Center. In his class, he demonstrates and teaches how to cut traditional borders and designs, as well as many of his own original borders. Because of his proficiency in micro-engraving (engraving very small letters or designs), Alfano is a wonderful instructor for jewelers who often work on smaller items.
Using Airtact for most of his work, he loves the flexibility it gives him while working on such a small scale. An important part of jewelry engraving is adding a little sparkle or flair to the metal, and Sam achieves that with his experience and his tools.
