The Art of Knifemaking

Finely crafted knives and engraving are two art forms that pair well together. For any artist, sole authorship, or creating a piece from the ground up, creates a great feeling of accomplishment.

This step-down side lock knife was created and engraved solely by Rick Eaton. A master of intricate and beautiful knife work, this example brings together many techniques for a flawless piece. The 3.875" mosaic Damascus blade Rick forged from various steels and pure nickel, and the handle is made of the same.

Rick used gold lip pearl, abalone, and meteorite inlays (6 inlays on each side) and engraved two women's portraits on either side, both with platinum and 24K gold inlays. Flying fish, scrolls, and small gold bubbles complete the ends.

This knife is truly a work of art. To find out more about Rick Eaton and view some of his work, visit www.eatonknives.com or the GRS Training Center site. Rick Eaton is teaching a Basic Engraving course in August – call 1-800-835-3519 today to enroll.
