A Special Engraving Field Trip
People from around the world take courses in the GRS Training Center.
Sometimes students enroll together: a father and son, husband and wife, or a
couple of friends...but twelve all at once! That's exactly what happened in
August 2007 when an eager group from Paris, Texas filled their own GRS basic
engraving course.
Shannon Calloway, an instructor from the Texas
Institute of Jewelry Technology at
Paris Junior College, tried
earlier in the year to organize an
engraving field trip to GRS. Unfortunately,
there was no class available with
enough seats. So a private 5-day
class was scheduled just for them.
Diane Scalese, an award-winning professional engraver from Montana
who also teaches for GRS, graciously agreed to teach their special
class.
Here are the energetic and eager people who traveled and learned
together. And here is some of the engraving the students did during class. Notice that many of them nicely engraved their jeweler's loupe as a personal
project. Shannon Calloway said she wanted the students to experience engraving to enhance the jewelry techniques they learn at TIJT.
Everyone at GRS enjoyed meeting these fun people from Paris, Texas; we all
had a great week.
