The Joy of Learning & Doing
If ever you have an opportunity to spend time with Augustino “Augie” LoPrinzi,
you will meet a man worth meeting. And you may learn a few tips for enjoying
life — not by sitting around relaxing, but by doing something with your hands.
Musicians may recognize the name LoPrinzi as a maker of fine guitars and other
stringed instruments. Augie started that company in a small area in the back of the
family barbershop more than 50 years ago.
Today at the age of 69, he’s mostly retired
from that business; now, he’s learning to engrave. These photos were taken May 2007
during an Intermediate Engraving course at the GRS Training Center. Augie traveled from
his home in Clearwater, Florida to attend this class taught by Rex Pedersen.
Mr. LoPrinzi has always had an obvious love for working with his hands and learning new
skills. If you’d like to learn more about the guitars that bear his name, visit
LoPrinzi Fine Guitars and Ukuleles online.
