Stone Setter Goes Wild
We’ve all seen extreme behavior before, but the never-ending pursuit of creative adventure can cause an unexpected progression that borders the extreme.
It happened one mid-February evening in a restaurant outside Munich, Germany. This small, quiet restaurant serves their dinner bread with special herb butter covered with polished metal domes. Apparently, the idea behind the butter covers is to add more elegance to the table, but it just wasn’t elegant enough for one of the stone setters that evening.
Mr. Dmitry “Dyma” (Dee-ma) Semenets of Antwerp, Belgium, insisted on taking one of the chrome butter covers from the restaurant that evening. The staff was caught off guard by this strange request, but reluctantly agreed. He promised to return it the next day and assured them it would not be harmed. Naturally, they had doubts.
The next morning during the New Munich Trade Fair / Inhorgenta Europe 2007 show, Dyma removed the top metal knob and set into it a 4mm amethyst-colored center stone, surrounded by an elegant double row of white stones in a flawlessly executed pavé style. The crowd gaped with near disbelief as they witnessed this highly professional job done to embellish what was once a simple butter cover. Look at the photos and judge for yourself. Is this true genius at work, or simply madness?
If you would like to learn how to do this high level of stone setting in real jewelry, fine watches, or the occasional butter cover, visit http://www.alexandreschool.com for information about their special pavé setting courses.
Stones were set using the following GRS products: GRS GraverMax SC, 901 Handpiece, and MicroBlock vise.
