During the Inhorgenta 2010 Fair in Munich, Germany, Magnus Svärd decided to make something special for his son, Jesper, who was back home in Sweden.

With some help from online research about street graffiti styles, Magnus designed this name plate which he made during his live show demonstrations. The 2mm thick brass plate is one of several styles available from GRS for this type of project.

Magnus is a professional goldsmith and stone setter living in Gothenburg, Sweden. He was trained in a very traditional, old-world way. Svärd emphasizes this by relating how he learned to set stones without even the aid of a flex-shaft motor to drill holes...he had to use a hand-powered drill. Now, he uses the best equipment available including a GraverMach with Airtact hand control.

This piece was engraved and set by Svärd to show how to creatively combine stone setting with engraving. These two skills are clearly related and use many of the same tools, although there are subtle and important differences in how the gravers are sharpened.
