ESU student Mitch Lurth is at it again, carving out delightful designs for his guitars.
Previously, Mitch engraved a custom pick guard that was full of bright and shiny cuts in copper. Here you can see the makings of a brand new design that Mitch is engraving on another pick guard. Since he has recently started this project, only parts of the pick guard are engraved.
One detail of particular interest is how Mitch has incorporated the screw holes into the design so well that they become part of the design without actually being designed. Some engravers may struggle with what to do with screws on items such as pick guards and firearms, but sometimes the best design decision is to leave them out completely. Another option that works well for some engravers and for some works is to really incorporate the screws by engraving each one or designing the layout to flow around each screw. Instead, Mitch has placed his banner and design so that it passes through the screw hole with no attempt to circumvent the area.
Stay tuned for more progression shots of this neat guitar in the following weeks. Be sure to check out the new Monogram Mondays if you haven't downloaded your free artwork yet.
