The April 7, 2009 Featured Photos showed Mitch Lurth starting a new project, customizing his electric guitar with an engraved pick guard.
In these photos, you can see Mitch has made some nice progress. The first two photos show him engraving the main lines in the copper pick guard using a widened square graver. The pick guard was made from copper sheet about 0.080" thick. It is screwed down to an aluminum plate which is clamped in an engraving vise that's not visible in these photos.
In the next two images, Mitch has started his shading. He especially liked adding a lot of fine lines to the flowers to provide nice visual contrast. The last photo also shows that Mitch labeled the Volume control location using script letters. He labeled the Tone control with script lettering as well.
All engraving was done using a GraverMach with Airtact hand control and a 901 handpiece. Be sure to check back in the future for the third and final part of this custom engraved guitar project.
