What started out as a failed attempt at a trade show has been transformed over time into a unique method of stone setting. The volcano setting, as explained in The “Volcano” Technique, Stone Setting Tutorial here on the GRS website, works by setting the stone on the top of the bracelet instead of underneath.
The volcano technique, developed by D.J. Glaser, provides the perfect look for these orange sapphires. Since the stone color is so similar to that of the smooth copper metal, the setting technique really brings attention to the stones. The volcano setting is perfect for bracelets where you do not want the stones peeking out from the bottom.
The design is based on the constellation "Cassiopeia," which can be identified by the W shape it forms in the night sky. Glaser designed this bracelet in copper for his wife as a gift. Follow the tutorial yourself and try out the new volcano setting method.
