Scrolls are a very natural occurrence. You can find them in plants and animals all over the world, so it's no wonder that humans try to recreate them in art. Most engravers study long and hard to understand all the ways and styles of constructing this natural beauty. One such style that is quite common among engravings is the English Scroll.

With it's simple but tiny shape, this scroll creates a rhythm that quite nicely fills any area. Traditionally seen on firearms, English Scroll is versatile enough to complement a hunter's shotgun or a lady's silver pendant. When coupled with a stunning arrangement of flowers, called a "bouquet", English Scroll really shows it's versatility. Like this example here, engraved by Marcus Hunt, English Scroll can be dainty and feminine. The engraving measures approximately 1.25" (30mm) by 0.5" (13mm).

Marcus Hunt, a renowned engraver from England, will be teaching an English Scroll course at the GRS Training Center in 2008. If you are interested, call GRS today or go online at www.grstrainingcenter.com to find out how you can learn English Scroll from Marcus Hunt.
