Western Bright Cut Bracelet : bracelet flat by Diane Scalese -
Close up : Ends of bracelet -
Close up : Flower and scrolls near middle
This exquisite silver bracelet, engraved by Diane Scalese, is an excellent example of Western Bright Cut engraving. As mentioned in Silver Bracelets Part 1, many engravers prefer to engrave these bracelets flat and then form them afterward; these photos were obviously taken before the bracelet was formed. One way to form them is with the 004-725">GRS Metal Former (#004-725), which is actually based on a tool built years ago by Bob & Diane Scalese for Diane's growing business.
This particular bracelet is 18mm (0.71") wide and 148mm (5.83") long. The silver stock is domed; it's 1mm (0.04") thick at the outside edges and about 1.8mm (0.07") thick in the center.
Diane has made and engraved bits, spurs, trophy belt buckles, saddle silver, and jewelry for nearly 20 years. Her work has won numerous awards and, in 2003, she was chosen as the Engraver of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists. As a GRS Instructor, Diane teaches several engraving courses. Although her 2007 courses are filled, refer to the 2008 GRS Course Schedule available later this year for her 2008 classes.
