Engraving a Crest Signet Ring
work by Todd Daniels

Some clients want a personal object or symbol captured on a piece, such as a favorite hunting dog on a gun or a family crest on a ring. This type of engraving job can be quite different and challenging.

As an example, these two 14 karat gold die-struck rings, which are part of a set of three, were engraved by Todd Daniels. The face of each ring is a mere 14 mm (0.55") across, quite a small workspace. However, Daniels has accurately reproduced the family crest even on this tiny surface. The lion in the center measures just 5.4 x 5.9 mm (0.21" X 0.23"). The text that prominently states Onward and Upward measures slightly less than 0.5 mm (0.02")...about the thickness of 5 pieces of paper. With certain areas engraved as a positive and others as a negative, Daniels' engraving skills and experience are clearly evident.
