As an artist, it can be an emotional struggle sometimes when a client requests something that may not be the best fit for you or perhaps the canvas.
Jura, who does high-end stone setting like the work you see here, did the beautiful micro-pavé work on this tie pin. The client brought the tie pin to Jura asking for a single stone to be set in the tiny 2mm ball on the end. However, Jura proposed a different idea that resulted in an effect that is not only aesthetically pleasing but technically nice as well.
Overall, Jura set 13 stones on the small 2mm round surface. Each stone measures approximately 0.7mm, set using micro-pavé techniques. Instead of simply setting the single large stone to create a sparkling but plain pin, Jura used his artistic insight to create something brilliant.
If you find yourself in such a situation, just remember that the client probably came to you because they already like your work or style. Take this instance to heart and don't be afraid to suggest alternatives to your clients when you need to.
You can find more photos of Jura's work — including some beautiful macro shots — on his personal jewelry website: jurajewelry.com. Jura has set stones on some neat pieces, and you can browse them online.
